Traditionally, exit interviews have been conducted by someone from human resources, or by the manager of the departing employee. This is obviously a flawed process, as employees will be reluctant to provide full and frank feedback to someone who could be responsible for providing them with a reference.
 
 
  Ideally exit interviews should be conducted by:
 
     
An impartial third party
 
A human resources professional
 
The same person across the entire organisation (to ensure consistency)
